A recent survey of Cobb-based churches and Faith-based Organizations (FBOs) emphasizes the need for cooperation in providing community outreach among themselves and with nonprofit organizations (NPOs). Almost 30% of those surveyed cited lack of funds as a primary barrier to providing outreach (a need for volunteers was cited by 22% of respondents). This same survey highlights the FBOs’ desire to work together: “We need unity to...be more effective in the community” (28%); “(t)o pool resources and know who’s doing what” (20%); “to eliminate and lessen duplication” (18%); “to find out where the needs are and meet them collectively” (12%).

With an awareness of increased community need along with a parallel decline in available resources, churches, FBOs, and NPOs are finally realizing the need to step up efforts to work together in order to (1) avoid duplication and waste and (2) to effectively provide community outreach in the most efficient manner.
